The 2004 Master Plan included a Historic Preservation Plan Element for the first time. This was a key building block in supporting and empowering the newly formed Historic Preservation Commission. The Historic Preservation Plan Element was amended in 2008, replaces and supersedes the 2004 element, and can be read at the following link:
Master Plan
The Master Plan of the Township of Maplewood, adopted in 2023, makes numerous references relevant to historic preservation. In 2024, the Maplewood Historic Preservation Commission, on behalf of the Township, applied for and was awarded a grant from the NJ State Historic Preservation Office’s Certified Local Government program to update the Preservation Element of the new Master Plan. In early 2025, the Township awarded a contract to Barton Ross & Partners LLC to perform this work.
